Many of you NZer’s out there will regonise the no. plates on this phat attack bug eye WRX, wind the clock a few years and Falgoon Patel had his Brown show stopping Rex mopping up bodykit awards all over the country. Well as with every show car there time to shine is limited thankfully Falgoons new ride is the ex 5 Zigen Bug eye.

STANCE.

Those 18×9.5s fill the guards to the point of circumcising the rim lips.

7 second battery-powered Drag bike, All you techies eat your heart out. not the most exciting thing to watch mind you, picture a Pirus in a drag race. I do appreciate the tech to run 7s though.

I have being going to the Nats for the last tens years and always thought the show and shine needed some entertainment other than some gutter hoes stripping like cheap hookers on stage and this year they delivered with a Drift demo in the Pavilion, 90mins of action was promised and what we got was a little tame compared to some other events like Waikaraka or Whangas but Good on the team for getting consent to have it there regardless. with each car only doing a 30second set the tires where barley warm before the marshalls were waving the yellow flags. but I will take into account that one of AK’s biggest hospitals is directly next to the venue.

Eight drivers, wait is that a Subi I see? His ken block style antics had the crowd amping.

First out was Daimon Templeton with new war paint, the only FD currently competing at D1 level here in NZ.

Cole had a fresh Engine so was only running low boost/power at around 550hp at the wheels not its usual 700+ this kid has talent.

The Cali kid Redwood. notice the guy holding the fence up in front of his car, the whole thing had black sheets up blocking the view of people who hadn’t paid but back fired when the fence blew over on 20+ parked cars, I bet there were a few scratched or dented bonnets.

Steve Sole sowed off what he had being working on, wide body Chaser. This thing is huge it dawfs the Nissan sedans.

Kurt had fresh graphics on his new R34, to complete the look. Meisters the wheel of the show, anyone would think Work wheels were the control rim for D1NZ but they just look so so so good on everything who could resist.

B rad also debuted his new slider, Nissan 350z no fat-free diet here.

I hope he keeps this as his competition height, this was the stand out New D1 car for me. Stance check, Meisters check, satin paint check. I wonder what power plant lurks beneath?

Wide body satin black S4 RX7 freshly finished, I saw leaked photos of this a few weeks back and wasn’t disappointed to get an eyeful of the real deal. 13b pp turbo huffing on 1 ridiculously large turbo A three year labor of love for the owner.

I loved the fuel fuller between the lights. You can’t go wrong with 18” works, these wheels have flooded into NZ of late with an insane amount of cars flossin them at the show.

Paul Gibson had his Trophy hauler Ford Courier Show ute on show. Now sporting a PPRE 20b Pref, late in the day he started it up and gave it death revs much to the crowds delight.

Now to the other end of the scale but in no way less impressive. in fact this Navara had some stunning fab work, hand made parts everywhere you look. My hats goes off to the team at The Drop Shop here in AK responsible for the build they have really upped the game turing out some stunning one off builds.

Drift spec Series 4 had some cool fabricated pieces. I love the look with side skirts and standard rear bar.

Twenty ten was the year of the FC3S FD RX7 seem to be scarce.

Spotted this ultra cool Gear stick.

Here is what the stick belongs too. Mazda Luce Drifter 20b Bridgeport turbo powered, The owner builds roll cages for a living, the cage in this big beauty was of course a jungle gym. I cant wait to see this hit the track later this year it is beyond cool and will offer a great offset to the big Nissan sedans.

NZ’s V 4 and Rotary nats Show and shine as usual was teaming with vintage Rotary powered tin for the size of our country our Rotary scene and quality of the cars would rival any country world wide.

Rotahavik made there presence felt with ”I hate Honda” stickers plastered everywhere. Grant had his sliver/blue 12app RX3 sporting a new super low stance thanks to new adjustable platforms. I also love his new wheels 17” Motorform Reflex’s, it wasn’t long ago when Motorforms where just about the only alloy wheels available for old Mazda’s, they are a classic wheel that always look stanch.

Another standout Havik car is Chris’s 626 now powered by a CBR 13b bridgeport turbo, how does 500+ ponnies at the Tarmac sound? I would guess very loose on street rubber.

Any one who had being wondering what Tony the Mak was building now that HVATOS has retired, this is his lastest strip weapon 20b powered small tired 2 coupe. while not ready for the strip it’s not long off and with Tony’s talent behind the wheel????

This stunning Example of an RX3 coupe running an injected n/a 13b had numerous examples of similar immaculate quality to compete with making the judges task all that much harder.

Resulting in weird decisions like Best engineering awarded to this MK1 Cortina with a super charged rotary, while the engine is a nice piece of kit, the hole place was full of vehicles with spectacular hand made suspension and engine set ups more deserving of such an award.

Steve had made a few changes to RTARLA a car I featured in MVP, now flossing white 18′’s and a half cage. Steve has that Drag racing bug so many fall victim too and has started engineering the ex show car trophy hauler into a strip focused bullet.

Jared (LOKDUP) had his bright Orange 808 on display he also has that drag racing bug and builds motors for most of his crew including Steves KE30. his own 808 running 400 + HP

Benny had the 323 looking good with a classic NZ rotary look 13” Modular s and no ground clearance, sadly Ben did make it to the drags as his right foot got the better of him, resulting in a 30 day impound order and a date with the judge Tuesday morning. LowLife proudly displayed on the front screen. hope the Towies treat her well brother.

A car i’m head over heels for and rightly so. arrow straight gloss black 78 Bug-eye hatch and you guessed it huge power 13b over 500hp again ATW’s. There has being a huge shift in NZ rotary culture off late with big power turbo power-plants becoming very popular and jaw dropping examples like this completely owner built are showing the next generation what one can achieve in the back shed.
This is only a small taste of the Rotaries with 100’s on display make the trip next year if you haven’t being.

Friday night I was inundated with texts telling me my old bagged Mazda 1200 was at the 4 and Rotary Nationals in the show by mates setting up there cars for the show. saturday morning I headed down with a big lump in my throat.

Fully airbrushed from top to toe.

I was happy to see some progress had being made with it, I hope he can actually make it run and drive.Tons more coverage from the Nats this week

Kurt Whittaker would be considered a veteran in the D1nz, campaigning his Cefiro for more years than I can remeber. but having reliabilty issues with the nissan power plant due to the bitch slapping he gave it on every outting he opttted for the Toyota King pin 2jz in his beatifully enginnered R34 powered by a To4z, it looks surprising at home in the nissan bay.
